Sherman Kelly wrote the song “Dancing in the Moonlight” in 1968. Prior to this, he took a trip to St Croix. While he was there he was attacked, beaten, and left for dead. Because of this, after returning home, he wrote this song for his band, Boffalongo, as a way to attract peace, love, and happiness into his life.
Boffalongo recorded Dancing in the Moonlight in 1970. Unfortunately, it didn’t get much attention. Then, in 1972 Sherman joined a band called King Harvest. In fact, they recorded the song and it really took off. Listen and see if you agree with the many people who say that Sherman Kelly wrote the ultimate feel-good song.

We get it on most every night When that moon gets big and bright It's a supernatural delight Everybody was dancing in the moonlight Everybody here is outta sight They don't bark and they don't bite They keep things loose, they keep things light Everybody was dancing in the moonlight Dancing in the moonlight Everybody's feeling warm and bright It's such a fine and natural sight Everybody's dancing in the moonlight We like to have fun and we never fight You can't dance and stay uptight It's a supernatural delight Everybody was dancing in the moonlight Dancing in the moonlight Everybody's feeling warm and bright It's such a fine and natural sight Everybody's dancing in the moonlight Everybody here is outta sight They don't bark and they don't bite They keep things loose, they keep things light Everybody was dancing in the moonlight Everybody's dancing in the moonlight Everybody's feeling warm and bright It's such a fine and natural sight Everybody's dancing in the moonlight Dancing in the moonlight Everybody's feeling warm and bright It's such a fine and natural sight Everybody's dancing in the moonlight Source: Musixmatch
Dancing in the Moonlight Rhyme Pattern
Funny how I never noticed that every line ends with a word that rhymes with ‘light’. Because I was curious, I looked it up. As a matter of fact, it’s called a monorhyme. Thanks, Sherman Kelly, for such clever rhyming.
Speaking of monorhymes, check this out. Here’s a famous monorhyme called Willy Wonka Tunnel Song from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Gene Wilder rocks!
Speaking of feel-good music, I hope you’ll enjoy this Dance Safari post, “Electro-Swing…Funky, Feel-Good Music“.

I hadn’t heard of the monorhyme either! It’s really obvious once it’s been pointed out, Barbara. Thank You. I love little bits of such knowledge. And, you just never know where you’ll find it.
xoxoxo
I’ve been messing around with creating a monorhyme poem myself. Try it, Carolyn, it’s kind of fun.
I’d love to read it when you’re through. 🙂
