Fear is a Waste of Energy and Prevents Happiness

What are you afraid of?  Is your fear of doctors caused by anxiety about pain and suffering?  Do you worry about losing someone to divorce or death?  Do you dread being in conflict with others?  Listen, unless you believe it’s keeping you safe and alive, fear is a waste of energy.

Let’s be honest, there’s rational fear and irrational fear.

For instance, walking alone in an unfamiliar part of town? Indeed, you’re right to be cautious. That’s because it’s reasonable to be aware of your surroundings.

Have you ever had a sick feeling that your teen’s been kidnapped because he’s 10 minutes late getting home from school? Are you ready to call the police? Trying to figure out where you’ll get the ransom money from? C’mon, be rational. There’s no reason to envision the worst. It’s a total waste of energy and concern.

Illogical feelings must not be your first reaction to a non-event that your mind created.

We probably can’t simply decide to cease having irrational fear. But, there’s got to be a way to manage it. For example, here’s what I do:

Stop fear in it's tracks.

Sometimes I say it out loud. However, if that doesn’t work, I do the old Supreme’s hand sign from Stop in the Name of Love.

Diana Ross said it best, "Stop in the Name of Love". Tell fear to hit the road.

And, then I get moving. It’s important to stay active when fear tries to make its way into your mind. It doesn’t matter what you do as long as your body is in motion. Of course, I like to dance. Why not put on an uplifting song and shake it? While you’re at it, grab a spoon for a microphone and sing along. Have fun with it. Nah, you don’t look silly at all!

Here’s a post from Dance Safari, “Stressed Out? 10 Things That Drive Anxiety Away“.

Instead of freaking out, take this advice from the guru, Osho.

Don't move in fear, but rather love and joy.

(To learn more about Osho and his movement, check out this book, Autobiography of a Spiritually Incorrect Mystic.

When you get nervous or fearful, try to find a way to quiet the chatter in your head. If you put some thought into it, I know you’ll find the solution that’s right for you. Lose the fear and live a happier and better life.
