“It’s time to learn how to…” You can fill in the blank. As a matter of fact, there are many things we can do to make our lives better. Pretty much takes a little effort, but that’s about it. However, you’ve gotta believe that you deserve a better existence with more opportunities for fun, recognition, and adventure. What stops you from doing these things? What are you waiting for?
It’s time to learn how to
…dream big.
Don’t let your dreams wither and die. Instead, walk, no, run towards them arms outstretched with an open heart. To be sure, you’re the only one who decides the immediate realization of your future. Be a big dreamer! Why not?

…lose the fear.
Courage comes naturally to small children. Watch a toddler when he or she gets an idea that something would be awesome to do. We shouldn’t stop them from trying, but we do because we know better. So are we teaching our children to be fearful?
Now that you’re a grown-up, do you still carry the fear that was instilled in you as a small child? Fearfully backing out of adventures will limit your satisfaction in life. Furthermore, if you’re not careful, you’ll end up looking back and saying, “Gosh, how I wish I took the time to learn how to lose the fear“.

…speak another language.
As a citizen of the world, having the ability to communicate isn’t a luxury, it’s a requirement. Travelling is unpleasant if you’re unable to make your needs known. Consequently, your world becomes smaller. Do yourself a favor and take this quote to heart:
Speaking of speaking, isn’t it time to learn how to speak in public?
Some people find it very easy to get up anywhere and make a speech. They don’t care if there are 2 people or 200 people listening. It’s no problem for them. In contrast, most of us shy away from public speaking. And yet, learning how to get good at it is a first-class ticket to a more successful life. To this end, all you need are the 3 Ps.
Passion, Preparation, and Personality

That quote from the great Mark Twain says it all. Above all, ya gotta know what you’re talking about. That’s where the passion and preparation come in. The truth is, if your subject matter isn’t important to you, you’ll never put in the time to properly prepare your speech. Therefore, you’ll be all too happy to take advantage of anything that’ll let you put it off.
A thorough understanding of your subject will allow you to add the final element, personality. The key here is showcasing your expertise in a confident and relaxed manner. You’ll speak in a self-assured way that reflects your knowledge and feelings.
As you can see, public speaking is an amazing skill to develop and will make your everyday life better. Need help? For close to 100 years, Toastmasters International has been helping people to become more confident when speaking in public.
Finally, what stops you from learning how to ballroom dance?

Personally, I’ll never stop beating the ‘learn to dance’ drum. Moreover, I’m in good company. Marilyn vos Savant is said to have an IQ of 228, which is the highest ever recorded. I imagine that means she’s pretty smart. If she says to learn ballroom dance, there’s a real chance that it’s a great idea.

What a fabulous post, Barbara. I love your enthusiasm and get up and go attitude… You definitely rock!
Back in 2011 Keith and I were asked to do a floor show of our Aussie New Vogue style dances. We were both extremely nervous. But as you’ve said – Will we succumb to our fears, or will we take that proverbial bull by the horns and give life a really good go. We chose to dance!!!
I’ve placed that video on my latest post. We sure were glad to have faced our fears… 🙂
Carolyn, I can’t believe I missed that video. Anyway, I still have a huge smile on my face after watching your performance. Delightful. So glad you and Keith faced your fear and did it.
You must know when I write about losing the fear, I’m taking inspiration from you and your blog. And, for that, I thank you.
Barbara
Hahah… No, Barbara, you didn’t miss it with your original visit; I placed the vid within the post after Resa requested it, which was after your visit.. 🙂
Thank You so much for your wonderful comment. I love your inspirational posts. We, as a community, are definitely interdependent. A muse here; a muse there. The result is a wonderful gathering of like minded individuals.
