Customer Service…Where Have All the Superstars Gone?

What is customer service?  It’s the Golden Rule, you know, treat others as you would like to be treated. (Try this post for some insight into that theory.)  Because great customer service requires you to treat your customers better than they could imagine, it can be a lot of work. It means anticipating the needs of the other person and having good manners while providing them with information and support.

Some Thoughts on Customer Service

Why give good service?

Anyone who works in a retail or service environment knows the benefits of good service. It’s rewarding and shows pride in the product you represent. You’re sharing knowledge as you gently guide your customer toward making the right decision for their needs. Without a doubt, the best way to do that is to put yourself in their shoes.

How does bad customer service make you feel?

Everyone deserves to be treated well, especially when you’re spending your cold, hard cash. Be that as it may, when you’re looking for help from a salesperson, how does it feel to be disrespected? In short, it feels bad. As a matter of fact, it’s frustrating and insulting. In the end, you probably won’t be spending your money in that place. Additionally, you’ll be sure to tell your friends about it, too.

Where do you find people with great skills?

You’ll find good customer service in companies that constantly train their representatives. Above all, they maintain a culture of proud service to others. An example is Chick-fil-A. This company is consistently rated at the top for its employee’s skills and helpfulness. That’s because their training is comprehensive and thorough. It’s said that at its completion employees are ready for anything. And, it shows!

Chick-fil-A offers excellent customer service.

What’s the end result?

Success comes to the business that prides itself on providing superior customer service. And, how will you be rewarded? Sales, commissions, growth, and prestige all come to those who serve wisely. In other words, if your customers like you, they’ll buy from you and encourage others to, as well.

Here’s a Dance Safari post that you might get a few tips from, “Why People Buy from a Salesperson“.

In conclusion…

  • Good customer service shows respect.
  • Be prepared by having the knowledge you need to address any concerns or questions.
  • Remember the names and situations of your regular customers. Subsequently, you’ll be on your way to creating long-lasting relationships.
  • Follow through with your promises. Of course, get the information they asked for, confirm they’re happy with their purchase, write notes, texts, leave messages. Do whatever it takes to stay in touch.
  • Be friendly and attentive. Moreover, do your best to be helpful.

Be a customer service superstar by showing that great service is what sets you and your company apart from the competition.

Look up at the night sky to see customer service superstars.
Look up for inspiration.

Besides, it’s the answer to the question, “Why should I do business with you?“.

  1. Great post and you have to blame the employers to a degree? I was once served in a shop where the girl was on her phone, never spoke once, just pointed but I did learn she was meeting her friend in Weathespoon’s at 8pm 😂😂

  2. Barbara, I have to admit that I’ve bought something from a salesperson just because they were courteous! (Not anything expensive or unneeded, you appreciate.)
But, genuine sincerity and that sense of truly being served has warranted a reward.
    Yep; I’m a softie… 🙂

    • And, I think that’s nice. It’s great to be served by someone so enthusiastic about their product. When it’s good, I’ve been known to return to the store for more salespeople love. Nothing better than a customer service superstar.

      • Precisely! We generally buy our ‘larger’ items from one particular store. They have the same range as most others, but, they have the superstar of all superstars serving. We even wait until she’s free….. 😉 😉
