Chocolate Pudding Cake from 80s First for Women Magazine

It’s fun to look back at the recipes from the 1980s.  There were new products and techniques available at the time that baby boomers like myself embraced. Today’s recipe from my collection is for Chocolate Pudding Cake. It’s a from-scratch deal that years ago I clipped out of First for Women magazine.  I gotta be honest, though. I never made it before. Just like so many other recipes in my trusty cookbook, they lived a lonely life waiting for me to make them.

However, I prepared this lovely chocolate pudding cake for dessert today.  So, let’s see what happened!

First off, here’s the recipe, as I clipped it.

The first thing I noticed was how difficult it was for me to read the recipe for this potentially delicious dessert. This was because everything was all jumbled together. It needed fixing.

So, I very happily redid it. Here it is.

Ah, that’s better!

And, here’s the nutritional breakdown for Chocolate Pudding Cake, courtesy VeryWellFit.com.

That’s a pretty big piece of cake at 6 servings! I have to say that 8 or 9 servings would probably be more accurate.

What everyone really wants to know is how does it taste?

Really? You read the recipe and you’re wondering how it tastes? You’ll only like it if you’re partial to a dessert that’s part chocolate cake, part chocolate pudding, and part chocolate heaven. I topped it with whipped cream and a strawberry.

I did expect that the top would be more crackly than it was. Maybe I could have left it in the oven for a few minutes more. In any case, I found it to be light and just sweet enough.

Man, there’s nothing like the oldies when it comes to yummy desserts.

By the way, if you’re looking for a great 80s dessert that’s not chocolate, here’s a Dance Safari post entitled, “Italian Sweet Cake Recipe from the 1980s“.
