Ballroom Dance Competitions SE United States March 2020

March 2020 is gonna be a great month for ballroom dance competitions. I have an idea. Why not plan a visit to the Southeastern USA in the Spring to check out these Dancesport events? You’ll see people from all over the world as they show their passion for dance. Besides, the weather will be warm and the skies blue. As a result, you’ll delight in a winning combination of music, people, and dance.

Check out this Dance Safari post, “Spectator at a Ballroom Dance Competition? This is for You“.

Which Ballroom Dance Competitions are held in March 2020 in Southeastern USA?

There are lots of exciting things to see at a ballroom dance competition. In fact, one exciting aspect of a ballroom dance competition is the pro-show. With this in mind, don’t miss the Saturday, March 7th Showtime performance featuring Riccardo Cocchi & Yulia Zagoruychenko. This talented couple recently retired as 10-time Latin Dance Champions.

First Coast Classic Dancesport Championship, St. Augustine, FL

The First Coast Classic has been hosted annually in St. Augustine for 30 years. Organizer Sarwat Kaluby coaches and choreographs for some of the world’s leading couples and is also a world-renowned adjudicator and examiner.

Plan to spend a little time in historic St. Augustine, FL, the oldest city in the United States. Fly into Jacksonville International Airport and stay at the fabulous Renaissance Resort World Golf Village.

Music City Invitational, Nashville, TN

Nashville, Tennessee is best known as the Capital of Country Music. However, Music City Invitational organizer, Nancy McCaskill, knows a thing or two about bringing brilliant ballroom dancing to this music-crazy town. To be sure, location is very important. For this reason, the ballroom dance competition will be held at the Hutton Hotel in the Midtown/West-End area. Because of this, sightseeing is easy as it’s very near Music Row, Ryman Auditorium, and the Nashville Symphony.

By the way, if you missed 10-time World Latin Champions Riccardo and Yulia, here’s another chance for you to see them in person at the Music City Invitational.

Sarasota Challenge Sarasota, FL

Since I’ve attended this competition, I can confidently say that it’s a highly recommended 1-day comp with lots of great dancing. The Hyatt Regency Sarasota is the home of the Sarasota Challenge. For more than 12 years Sarasota Challenge organizer Sid Pocius has been doing an excellent job.

The event includes a dynamic pro-show featuring successful American Smooth competitors Max Sinista and Tatiana Seliverstova.

What to wear as a spectator at a ballroom dance competition?

Many competition websites will list their suggestions for appropriate dress. Generally, for a multiple-day Championship competition, it looks something like this,

  • Day Sessions: Dressy Casual
  • Evenings: Dressy/Cocktail
  • Evening Show on Last Night: Formal/Black Tie

One last word about ballroom dance competitions.

As you can see, I’ve included the link to each of the competitions. Yes, I know this is last-minute. But, because they love the company, it won’t be a problem to get tickets. Hopefully, you’ll find a way to make ballroom dance competitions a mini-vacation for the mind and spirit. You’ll be entering a world, unlike anything you’ve seen before.
