How We Met

We met at Danny’s Tavern.  My friends and I went every weekend because they had a live band on Friday and Saturday nights.  We love to dance and the music was always good and loud.  

On one particular Friday night, it happened that all of my friends were busy.  So I decided to go by myself. Being a regular, I felt perfectly safe.  

Got me a drink and had a few dances. That’s when he came in.  I couldn’t help but notice him because of the way he carried himself.  He appeared to be extremely confident and moved with power and poise.  

Good looking, too.  But, I was having so much fun dancing that I soon forgot about the new guy.  

I love to dance, but after a while, I took a break and went outside to cool off.  

Guess who had the same idea?  Tall, dark, and handsome, that’s who!  

“Love the way you dance.  Looks so relaxed,” he said.  I replied, “I love to dance. I’ve been dancing all my life.  Started taking lessons when I was three.  What about you, do you dance?”

At this, he smiled. “You might say so.  I’m a ballroom dance teacher.”  So that explains his confidence and great posture. 

He grinned and said, “Come on, let’s dance.”

I accepted his invitation and, boy, did we dance!  Every song the band played and every song the jukebox played.  Slow songs, fast songs, it didn’t matter.  We had a blast that night because we both love to dance.

At the end of the night, he asked for my number, which I gladly gave.  Twenty-two years later, we’re still together.  So when he asked me where I wanted to go for Valentine’s Day, I told him the truth.  

“I would love to dance with you tonight at Danny’s Tavern, where it all started.”
