A Touching Story

Two people moving with the music – together as one.  Obviously, this can’t be done without a human touch.  One thing I’ve learned about dancing is that you are required to get into each other’s space.  Gotta do it.  If you’re in a situation that involves music and dancing, you’re gonna get touched.  And it’s nice.  human touch feels good

What happened?

Recently I was in a car accident that left me with neck and back injuries.  Consequently, there will be no dancing for me until I make a full recovery.  I miss the friendship and camaraderie that comes from dancing with others.  Bruce Springsteen has a song called Human Touch.  In it, he sings, “I just need someone to talk to, and a little of that human touch, just a little of that human touch.”  Me, too, Bruce.

I’m not complaining.  Listen, I’ve been touched.  I’ve had lovers and children and neighbors and friends and family and they all touched me.  Reaching out to one another is a way to show warmth and compassion.  But dancing together, now that’s something different.

After living in South Florida for 30 years, I’m now in Raleigh, North Carolina.  It’s a beautiful place with gracious people who make me feel welcome with warm hugs and lots of human touch.

Why write a blog?

I love writing about ballroom dance lessons and what to expect when you’re learning to dance.  Fear of the unknown is the number one reason people avoid a dance class.  With this in mind, I hope you feel that I’ve given you a peek into the process.  And, of course, you have nothing to be afraid of.

Having been in this industry for so many years, I’m eager to share my enthusiasm and love for ballroom dancing.  Everything, from lessons to showcase recitals to dance competitions, has given me experiences that I treasure.

Nothing would give me more pleasure than to find out I helped you make the decision to cut loose and give it a try.  Please leave me a note in the comment section.human touch makes a touching story

One thing I must admit is that I miss the daily interaction of working at a dance studio.   Watching staff and students grow energizes a dance pro.  You see, instructors get as much out of it as students.  It touches us.
